‘Time & Tide’
A modern home for newly retired downsizes from country NSW relocating to the Sunshine Coast to enjoy the wonderful amenity of this quaint riverside village in Maroochydore. The site is located in a medium density development zone surrounded by apartments and mixed use development, so a key consideration was how to open up to the nature and surrounding context whilst maintaining privacy and amenity within the home.
All of the everyday living program is contained on the upper floor level, including main bedroom & ensuite bathroom, kitchen, living, laundry, as well as external terrace and pool. The ground floor contains garaging at the rear of the house (so as not to dominate the street facade), guest bedroom, kitchenette, and large open plan multi-purpose room.
Key features are a suspended swimming pool located on the upper floor, which enhances accessibility and amenity for the owners. This encouraged a 1.5 storey height for the ground floor creating lofty ceilings and volumes and enhanced aspect from the upper floor level. Standing seam colour bond exterior cladding in white, a mixture of rendered and off-form concrete walls, and natural timber ceilings create a classic modern coastal materials palette. Internally, natural stone bench tops with a striking contrast of black and white with smashes of quartzite are a bold statement, and skylights over the ensuite and kitchen and heroes of the interior design.
